The “Bonds of Friendship, Bonds of Love—Taiwan and Southeast Asia” Forum

The “Bonds of Friendship, Bonds of Love—Taiwan and Southeast Asia”
Forum, held by #TaiwanPanorama, wrapped up successfully recently!

We’d like to give a special thank you to the teachers and students of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at 國立政治大學 National Chengchi University (NCCU) who co-organized the forum alongside Taiwan Panorama.

Sincere thanks also to our roster of honorable guests:

Dr. Alan H. Yang, executive director of the 臺灣亞洲交流基金會 Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, served as a very humorous host for the forum, noting that the aim was to show the process of “becoming a part of the family,” involving an exchange between cultures and mutual recognition.

Although documentarian Nguyen Kim Hong, couldn’t make it to the forum, she pre-recorded a video and shared clips from her film Out/Marriage 《失婚記》Ly Hôn Ký Sự with us, in the hope of encouraging her Southeast Asian sisters to pursue happiness fearlessly.

Rti 中央廣播電臺 Thai-language presenter Asoke Srichantr shared how he assisted #Thai immigrant workers in Taiwan during his service at the Thailand Trade and Economic Office - TTEO in Taipei.

National policy advisor Ho Thanh Nhan observed that Taiwan’s society has become more inclusive towards the cultures of new immigrants.

The editor-in-chief of Taiwan Panorama, Ivan Chen, gave an overview of our reporting on #SoutheastAsia, and the shifts in perspective that reflect social changes over the past 40 years.

Also there were:
Huang Chih-yang, deputy director-general of international information services,
Chang Cheng, the new director-general of Radio Taiwan International and
Dr. Thi-Nham Le, assistant professor at National Chengchi University’s Southeast Asian Languages and Cultures Program.

Many students from National Chengchi University also participated in this event, raising questions about the future of new immigrants, multiculturalism and their views of Taiwan Panorama.

The photo exhibition outside the venue was the distillation of our work reporting on Southeast Asia. They will be showcased again at the #SEASIA Biennial Conference 2019, giving international scholars a snapshots of the sociological currents in Taiwan over recent years.
